A
crumbling statue of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea, lies
along the path-way. As guests move further along, they approach
a revered city buzzing with humanity. Exotic traders peer from
behind mountains of rich fabrics and precious metals, summoning
all who enter to join them in the search for even more
treasures. Those who dare to proceed must do so cautiously or
quickly find themselves lost in a foreboding medieval forest
inhabited by fiery dragons and mythical gods. This is the Lost
Continent, a land once believed to exist only in the mists of
time.
Poseidon's
Fury: Escape From The Lost City
"The
Keeper" appears to be extremely pleased with the unexpected
arrival of guests to his cavernous retreat. After all, it's been
hundreds - perhaps thousands - of years since he's had anyone to
whom he could tell his story of the city that disappeared into
the sea. Now, each guest has become a member of a
"captive" audience and must pass through a 42-foot
water vortex containing 17,500 gallons of surging, swirling
water - an adventure that until now, has never been
accomplished. This multi-media presentation places Universal
Studios Islands of Adventure travelers in a battle between
Poseidon (water) and his archenemy Zeus (fire). The weapons
include more than 350 000 gallons of water and 200 flame effects
and exploding 25-foot fire-balls.
Dueling Dragons
"A
stroll through this forest can be a dangerous proposition,"
guests are told by the legendary sorcerer, Merlin. "This
forest is enchanted. And living within it are two fierce
dragons. One breathes fire, the other breathes ice. In order to
escape, you must prove your bravery by mounting the back of one
of the creatures and riding it to freedom." So begins
guests' introduction to the only roller coaster of its kind.
Dueling Dragons features two intertwined tracks that whiz guests
over, under and around each other through the trees of a
medieval forest and over Dragon Lake.
From
the top of the 125-foot common lift; the Fire Dragon drops to
the left reaching a top speed of 60 mph as the Ice Dragon drops
to the right reaching 55 mph. With each track following its own
unique layout, the ride experience varies from one track to the
other. Dueling Dragons is an inverted coaster so riders' legs
dangle free as they encounter five inversions and three near
misses with riders on the opposite track. At times; the two
tracks and their passengers are separated by a scant 12 inches.
The
Eighth Voyage of Sindbad
Seven
voyages were not enough for this mythical sailing hero. So, he
strikes out once again on his continuing search for enormous
riches, encountering life-threatening perils along the way.
Visitors to The Lost Continent will be on the edges of their
seats during this stunt show which features six water explosions
and 50 pyrotechnic effects including a 10-foot tall circle of
flames, 154eet in diameter and a 22-foot burning high fall, all
staged in a 1700-seat theater in the heart of Sindbad's domain.
