Gatorland
is Florida's largest alligator attraction. Spread out over 50
acres (20 hectares), Gatorland is a functioning commercial
alligator farm as well as an educational resource. You can learn
all about crocodiles, alligators and other wildlife through
displays and live shows that are performed throughout the day.
One
of the most entertaining shows is the famous Gatorland Alligator
Wrestlin' show. This presentation is a unique alligator
wrestling show done "Florida Cracker" style in an 800
seat stadium. Gator wranglers catch 6-8 foot alligators by hand,
climbing on the back to point out survival features to the
audience. After doing stunts that only a few are brave (or
foolish) enough to try, the alligator is rolled over and put to
sleep...only to be awakened by a tickle! It's both exciting and
educational.
Another
exciting show is the The Gator Jumparoo Show where some
of the largest alligators in the world actually jump four to
five feet out of the water to retrieve food in this
one-of-a-kind show. You will learn more about the alligators and
crocodiles and their capabilities. Watch as giant alligators
jump high enough out of the water to actually snatch food from
the trainer's hand!
Gatorland's other
attractions include breeding pens, nurseries and rearing ponds;
a baby-animal petting zoo and a boardwalk through a 10-acre
(4-hectare) breeding marsh. You can also take a narrated tour of
the grounds in a miniature train!
